Alcon was founded in 1945 by Robert Alexander and William Connor, who opened a small pharmacy in Fort Worth, Texas. Alcon has grown from a small ophthalmic shop to a global business unit.

By merging into Novartis in April 2011, Alcon became the second largest division of Novartis, one of the most successful and respected healthcare companies worldwide. We operate in 75 countries around the world, have more than 20 state-of-the-art manufacturing and distribution facilities to ensure a reliable supply of products and do have more than 15’000 employees worldwide.

The European Management is based here, around 60 employees are working there.
Alcon Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Fribourg
The European Shared Service Center is based here, delivering services in Finance, IT, Supply Chain Management and Customer Service. Around 220 employees are working here.
Alcon Switzerland AG, Hünenberg
